Just a note about upgrading hard drives
Just a note about upgrading hard drives
Just wanted to share with everyone here the seagate freeagentgo series external usb hard drives can be opened easily and swapped into the machine. I wanted a bigger HDD but low on funds so I experiemented and worked. you can then use the sata adapter that comes with the seagate drive on our old hdd and have a smaller external drive. Just thought Id share in case someone wants a bigger hdd and has a ext drive.

I have never been sure if there would be a PATA drive inside that case or a SATA.tdawg5480 wrote:Just wanted to share with everyone here the seagate freeagentgo series external usb hard drives can be opened easily and swapped into the machine. Since I have ThinkPads with both interfaces, I have lucked out.
Also, those former external drives can usually be used in a Ultra Bay enclosure, but I did run into one Sata drive that did not play well with the Ultra Bay in a T60, but was ok in the main slot, except for that "error 2010" annoyance.
Its a sata in there these days patas are more less gone from ext usb hdd because of speed. I lucked out too having a t4x series and t6x series.
As for that sata drive not playing well in the ultrabay could it be the ahci hdd setting in the bios? I got the faintest clue on what that setting does i noticed on one hdd it didnt play nice when i switched it off default.
if im not mistaken these sata drives have a jumper to could that play a role in ultrabay compat?

I will google around and see what I can find about jumpers and the ahci. Thanks.tdawg5480 wrote:Its a sata in there these days patas are more less gone from ext usb hdd because of speed. I lucked out too having a t4x series and t6x series.
