Do all T61s come wired for 4695AGN?

#1 Post by cb474 » Mon Nov 17, 2008 8:12 pm

I just bought a T61 used and am thinking of replacing the Atheros 11abg card, with the 4965AGN card (I know about all the debates about Atheros vs Intel, by the way, so I don't need to be warned). But I read that you have to have a third wire/antenna for the N to work. Is it safe to assume this laptop has the antenna in there? Or should I really wait until it arrives in the mail, disassemble it, and check for the third wire, before buying a 4965 card? Thanks.

Not all T61 ThinkPads will have third antenna installed for 802.11n operation.

However, its not hard to install a third antenna under the palm rest (so no screen disassembly is required). The palm rest location isn't as good as the screen location, but is none the less quite workable in many WiFi situations.

I have done this on a T60 with a 4965AGN and it works equally as well as the factory installed antennas in my X61.

Cheers,
