What is the machine type/model of your Thinkpad (see the sticker on the bottom). What are you trying to connect to? Wireless router in your home? Model of the router? Does any other device connect wirelessly to this router? Is the wireless radio on? (FN-F5 on the keyboard, check turn on wireless radio).

its a 1872 t43 W the 2200 radio and im trying to connect to my router at home

Ok, what happens if you enable the radio via the FN-F5 keyboard combination? Does the 2200bg adapter show up as installed in device manager?

yes and i can configure it but it wont connect. I know I have entered the right WEP key and router name but i cant get it to work. This is very fustrating since Windows 2000 runs about twice as fast as XP and Mandriva and I really dont want to switch back to either.

Most likely you are using 128 bit encryption. I guess that it is not supported in Windows 2000. At least I have never managed to
make that work with Windows 2000. 64 bit encryption does work.

got it to work fine. As it turns out i misspelled the SSID (its case sensitive >.<) and W2k does in fact support 128bit WEP security.
