Windows XP Product Key ???????

#1 Post by atct86 » Wed Jan 12, 2005 11:02 am

My computer was of course pre-loaded with windows XP Professional.

During the summer I had a major problem and was forced to reformat. However I did not have the system restore disks. Instead I used a new copy of XP Pro Full, which I had purchased previously.

If I am not mistaken, i still own the liscense of XP that came with my computer. So if I had the restore cd could I put my computer back to factory settings, and then use the Purchased Xp pro on another computer?

Sorry if this is confusing

If i were to uninstall my purchased copy of XP, will the serial number automatically become ready to be installed on a different computer?

I think what Leon means to say is that once uninstalled you can legally install onto another computer. Technically speaking Windows will not release the license from your laptop. When you activate on the new computer it will find a match with your laptop activation and may ask you to confirm the switch by phone.

yes, thanks for the clarification, thats what I meant. You will probably need to call, but it is quick, painless, and no problem.
