How to disable Win XP Firewall

#1 Post by Truthfinder » Wed Nov 19, 2008 5:56 pm

Hi gang:

Anyone have the instructions that will keep XP from turning the firewall on? If I turn it off and re-boot, XP turns it back on.

I had instructions that were set up using the DOS Prompt, but had to Ghost restore and lost them.

Thanks ONE and ALL

Steve :-)

Go to Settings/Control Panel/Security Center where you can switch it on/off.

XP Firewall issue

#3 Post by Truthfinder » Wed Nov 19, 2008 10:27 pm

I began to notice that once I installed NIS 2009, the Windows Firewall would turn itself back on after each reboot. There was no way around this issue.
Anyhow, I just found a fix and it works great...... See the following for instructions should anyone else need this fix:

Best to all, Steve

To permanently prevent Windows Firewall from starting with Windows, run the following commands in a command prompt: NOTE:: You can use command prompt while in Windows.

SC CONFIG SharedAccess Start= disabled [ENTER]

See: ChangeSerViceconfig SUCCESS

NET STOP SharedAccess [ENTER]

see: The Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Charing <ICS> was stopped successfully.

Restart the computer. If you try to check the firewall it will tell you that the service is disabled! Don't enable it
