I'm running Vista Ultimate x64 on a X61 7676 configuration with a 7100 CPU, 4GB of memory plus a 120GB 7200 rpm drive, and it runs very nicely.

Your 2GB memory config should be fine as well.

Cheers,

A couple of months ago, I was going to use 64-bit (on a T61p) and I decided that so many things didn't work that it was not usable. For example, the vista windows update wouldn't install updates or would crash entirely if I had 4GB of memory. If you just want to try 64-bit, wait. If you REALLY need the 64-bit stuff for something like video editing, good luck. Many of the utilities I use every day, just didn't work at all. By the way, my experience was after SP1 was installed.

i read few months ago that vista can be made much faster by disabling few services...one thing i can remember in particular was prefetch or something..can anyone pour in their views about this and those services???

I have Vista Business 64-bit running on my T61p with 3Gb of memory and I have no problem with crashing. I do agree that software compatibility is an issue, and I did have to replace lots. Still, 64-bit is the future, so in the end, I was happy to bite the bullet and get it done. Most of what I have should easily run on a Windows 7 64-bit system.

So as long as you go in with your eyes wide open, 64-bit is an interesting challenge. ... JDH

hey
installed the vista ultimate x64 version
at first when i was installing the drivers and updates, the system kinda in a very minimal way, lagged a bit!!!!
other than that it was pretty fine!!!!
i installed the bitdefender 64 bit version..the entire system scan did take around 1 hour...after that the system is ZIPPY!!!

but hey, i did make a few tweaks..actually followed this kinda good guide and did a few stuff from it!!!

http://www.techsupportalert.com/make-vi ... faster.htm

and i even noticed that my startup and shutdown times have really improved as i kee using the Os...

and also i read that having ofce 2003 lite version is muuuuuch beter thn the ofce 2007....atlst i have noticed the difrnce!!!!

now i have a vista ulti 64 version running almost similar to when i had the xp installed!!!!!!!! 8)

hey..
i hve ben using the ultimate x64 version for quite sometime now and i must say the experience has been pretty nice..the system is not slow at all even though i have 2GB of ram...

i have two questions regarding few stuff..i could not figure these out...

1. well my x61 has a built in microfone [obviously], and i could not use it with yahoo messenger nor skype..but i can record my voice with the sound recorder..
i have checked control panel > sound > recording[tab]. Over there the microfone icon was ticked and working. i tried enabling and disabling the device. Even then i could not figure out what the problem is.

2. i have tried using the bluetooth to sync with my jabra bluetooth headset so that i can use that one atleast for chat..i have successfully connected it..but i coudl not use it with yahoo..i did goto the preferences in yahoo messenger and in the settings i could not see the bluetooth headset..i have done this in the past when i was using XP, but i cannot do it now in vista..

can anyone throw light on these 2 issues please!?? :?: :?: :?: :?:
