8G of RAM - Thank you early adopters!

#1 Post by heelix » Thu Nov 20, 2008 7:06 pm

A pair of 4G SO-DIMMs showed up on my doorstep today. Installed without issues. With Win32, 3G of usable RAM. With Win64, all 8G show up.

Just wanted to say thank you to you early adopters out there!

x61s.

Boy, they sure don't make it easy to install XP-64. Who would have guessed it would take more work to do Windows than Linux! Taking notes and will do a write up on this when I'm up and running.

Hi heelix, can using a 2GB and a 4GB SODIMM work (giving 6GB total) ?
X60 - upgraded to a X61 2.5Ghz motherboard and 8GB RAM (Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit) 64GB SSD
X61 - 2Ghz and 4GB RAM (Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit) 32GB SSD
USB DVD-RW DL/Blu-Ray reader

It should, but it will be a tad slower as it won't be dual channel. When I get back from holiday I'll try 4G+1G. Traded my 2G SO-DIMMs for the 4G'ers.

it would still be in dual-channel mode with 4GB + 2GB.   the speed differences between asymmetric and symmetric dual-channel modes are negligible at best and absolutely immeasurable by human standards.   you'd have to be a robot to notice it. ;)
