I have a ThinkPad A31 that has some issues, but is still in good usable condition. Ideally, this machine would be kept at a desk plugged in.
Specifications:
Intel Mobile Pentium 4-M 1.8GHz
512MB PC2100 RAM (1 DIMM, 1 slot open)
40GB 4200rpm Hitachi Travelstar 40GN hard drive
UltraBay 2000 DVD-ROM (right bay)
UltraBay 2000 3.5" floppy (left bay)
15" SXGA+ (1400x1050) FlexView display ***
ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 w/ 32MB VRAM
10/100Mbps ethernet CDC
56k modem CDC
1 free Mini-PCI slot, no internal antennae
Main battery wwith 18/43Wh charge remaining (~1hr runtime)
All ports unmangled and functional.
This machine has one functional issue: as described in this thread, the CMOS battery circuitry is wonky. It will lose the BIOS settings if it is unplugged and the main battery is removed. No replacement CMOS battery will fix it. All I did was clean some corrosion off that area of the motherboard, it could still be fixable if you want to tinker with the circuitry.
This machine also has 3 cosmetic flaws preventing it from being a 10/10.
***-The first is the once-beautiful FlexView display. There are marks along the sides and bottom of the screen that are obvious when using the machine. They are inside part of the panel, since they do not wash off (though I did not put any type of solvent on the screen).
-The second is the keyboard: there is noticable shine on the alphanumeric keys, but it functions great and none of the lettering is worn.
-Lastly, there are some white scuffs on the lid. I'm sure these are removable but I'm not going to put any type of solvent on the cover.
I have taken this machine apart completely to check out the motherboard. Everything was put back together carefully and not a single part is broken or missing. I'm pretty anal about this type of thing: the machine is stock in terms of construction.
There is an installation of Windows XP Professional SP3 (w/ IE7) on the hard drive. This was installed from my volume license and is 100% legal and genuine. The COA for XP Professional remains on the bottom.
I'm asking $100, but if it comes down to it, I'll accept offers and maybe consider parting it out. You really can't get a machine as powerful as this for the price, and you'd have to double what I am asking to even get the lowest of the T4x series.
Pictures
Sorry for the poor quality, I was trying to get them taken before the batteries died. I can get better shots of specific things if you'd like. The screen issues are worse than the picture of it shows. Lots of greyish blobs on the sides and bottom.
