T9300: What would you do?

#1 Post by EvilH » Fri Nov 21, 2008 11:35 am

I work at a PC recycling place and recently came across a recycled T61. This one looked like it was ran over by a garbage truck. The guy that dropped it off (who consequently was the guy who recycled the sun toasted one), says he dropped it while going into his attic office and it fell about 2 and a half stories. Needless to say it is pretty much completely destroyed. I stripped the parts that seemed to have survived (wireless, cpu and ram). RAM works (it is currently residing in the computer I am typing this on) as does the wireless (again residing in this computer). Question is what to do with the processor. I have a T60 so running a T9300 is out of the question. So how do I 1) test the darn thing and 2) what to do with it afterward. Can I use my T60 to at least POST it and then sell it with a warning that it isn't fully tested and came out of a damaged laptop? What would you do with a working T9300 and no laptop to put it in? I know there are mini-itx boards that can use them but they are spendy (though the thought of a small low power HTPC/ file server is rather tempting). Sorry about the long post.

AFAIK, that CPU wouldn't even physically fit in your T60.

You'll have to find a T61/R61 or similar to test it in...

BTW, has the media drive survived the fall?

Media drive and the hard drive weren't in it when he dropped it off so I assume they either didn't survive or he kept them.

Any seattle/ eastside people with an T61 wanna let me test a CPU? :)
