R51 Will only run on A/C, Battery not working

I purchased an r51 to use the MB in my dead t42, and found that it has a problem. It works fine of the A/C adapter, but will not run off or charge the battery. power manager shows there is a battery present, but still shows 1% battery life, when using a fully charged battery (tested in my other 2 thinkpads)

When i try to start the laptop off the battery, all the lights on the display come on, and the fan starts, but then it all goes dead again.

I have a feeling its a MB issue, but I wanted to see if anyone else out there has a solution.

Update: Upon some more fooling around with it. The laptop will run off the battery, just not boot from the battery. Its charging the battery now too.

Any ideas why it wont boot from the battery?

Im having simmilar problems with a t30 and a broadcom 11n card. when its installed the machine wont boot, it just shuts off after about 3 seconds. No IBM spalsh screen However it will boot with AC adapter pluged in.
