T400 question: get 2765T6U or pay more for LED screen

#1 Post by mrcultureshock » Sat Nov 22, 2008 3:14 am

Hello,

I'm planning to buy the T400 but got a quick question for you guys. I found the T400 2765T6U at Provantage for about $1200. The link is:

http://www.provantage.com/lenovo-2765t6u~7LENO0M2.htm

Unfortunately, this model only comes with a CCFL screen and a few missing features (multiple card reader for example). I then went to Lenovo and configured the Enhanced T400 model with the features I wanted and ended up with $1400 (after a 10% off coupon).

Do you guys think it's worth it paying $200 for the LED screen, a slightly faster CPU, a bigger HD (though slower), and a 7-1 reader? All the other features are exactly the same as the 2765T6U.

Thanks in advance!!

If I was you, I would definitely go for the LED screen. I assume that the slightly faster cpu from your second configuration has 6MB of L2 cache (unlike the P8400 with 3MB L2 cache). If you are a programmer or intend to game, I would recommend you the higher amount of L2 cache for performance reasons ;) (However, note that the greater L2 cache my affect battery life, I´m not sure how efficient Lenovo power management is in this concern...)

Just my 2 cents

I think it is virtually assured that you will regret not getting the T400's superb backlit, LED screen

ALSO - I think wait a few days and I have a feeling there will be more 20% ecoupons around for use at the Lenovo website directly. I received mine in 8 total days - ordered on a Sunday, UPS delivered (free shipping) the following Monday - 8 days total.

There are some coupons at the lenovo site right now and free shipping - there is also, I believe, a 21 day price match in case the cost goes down.

Do coupons work on top of an EPP discount?

No, the added battery life is not worth it.
