TP600 (Win98SE) refuses to recognize 40 gig ext HD

#1 Post by The Olde Man » Sun Nov 23, 2008 7:36 am

I have a 40 gig external HD with the driver disk, connected by USB cable, to my TP600 (Win98SE). Installed the driver per enclosed instructions which say that Win98SE is supported. However, the OS refuses to admit the HD exists.

My WinXP recognizes the disk so I know it works.

Perchance did XP put the wrong format on it or something?

If so, what can I do about it?

Format the drive as FAT32, that way XP and 98 will see it.

Well, the original stuff on the disk was from GHOST. And apparently GHOST leaves something there that has to be 'dismounted' because it cannot be deleted (about 1.2 gig). So I order it to dismount. It then merrily formats to NTFS even though the format command is for FAT32.

Hmmmm!
