Lenovo X200s vs Dell Latitude E4200

#1 Post by Cecilia76 » Sun Nov 23, 2008 9:37 am

Hallo,

I don't know if I go offtopic here, so if it's the case I gently ask the mods to move the topic in a different section.
I would like to buy an ultra-light machine; I am an veeeery-happy TP user (see signature) but I am now considering also different machines.
I was looking for very light machines (1 Kg) and I found these two:

Dell Latitude E4200:
http://www.dell.com/content/products/pr ... =bsd&cs=04

CPU SU9400 1.4 Ghz
3 Gb Ram (800 Mhz)
64 Gb HD SDD
LED WXGA 1280x800
Fingerprint reader
SD reader
BT
Wifi
WWAN ready

Lenovo ThinkPad X200s 7466-3SG:
http://www5.pc.ibm.com/europe/products. ... esite=cema

CPU SL9400 1.86 Ghz
2 Gb Ram (1066 Mhz)
250 GB HD 5400 rpm SATA
non-LED WXGA 1280x800
Fingerprint reader
Webcan 1,3 Mpixel
Trackpoint (no trackpad)
No BT
Wifi
WWAN ready

Both machines are around 1 Kg, cost around 1700 Euros and come with 3 years warranty.

Pros for Dell are:
Nice design
SSD
3 Gb RAM
Lighter and thinner

Cons for Dell are:
Slow (?)
No camera
No experience about keyboard and LCD quality

Pros for Lenovo are:
Fast
Know good quality for keyboard
Camera
Big hard-disk

Cons for Lenovo are:
Probably non-LED display is not so good
General battery life not so good
Thicker and heavier
No BT

Anyone can give me a hint?

Cec

PS: I also considered Toshiba Portege R500 11Z but I think is a bit old nowadays (no latest technologies, for what it's worth...)
ThinkPad T42p (2373-HTG) [broken GPU, waiting for a motherboard replacement]
ThinkPad X41 (2525)

If you import one for overseas (USA), you get much, much more for that 1700 euros.

As far as I know the Dell has only one RAM slot. So that means you get 1GB onboard + one slot. So 3GB is possible, 4GB isn't. (Or very, very expensive)

The panel in the Lenovo is TN, the worst type of all LCD panels there is.

I don't know for the Dell, but I guess that it's TN too. From the Lenovo's only the X200T seems to have a IPS panel.

As for batterylife:
The Dell has a SU9400, what uses less energy then the SL9400 of the Lenovo. The SSD saves some too.

Ok, I see.
In any case I doubt they have the same panel: X200s is not LED-backlit while Dell is LED-backlit.

Do you think they are both bad quality?
Do you know if the SU9400@1.40Ghz is slow or not?

Hello,

there is BT on my X200s system... Are you sure you got none for the same model??

Yeah, probably I was wrong.
It should have BT.

Anyway I decided for Dell Latitude E4200.

Thanks everybody, Cec
