Economic recesion and laptops quality
Economic recesion and laptops quality
I heard that some notebook manufacturers are considering to reduce prices via changing come costly components like carbon fibers and magnesium pc in the casings thus affecting durability and overall quality... what do you think of this trend... do we own the last good constructed machines and are entering a new disposable ones era?

I love how we talk of older technology. Back when I had my first ThinkPad, a 350c back in the 90s, I thought nothing out there could compete in durability. Now the thing sits around with two broken hinges, a dying keyboard and a shot screen. Oh and I discovered the IBM logo on the screen bezel is held in place with Scotch-style tape.

nanocomputers..!
they will be small enough to circulate in the users blood and will make small repairs to the user all the while doing other more mundane tasks like emails direct to the users optic nerves..
just think forward a little..

... the same old rumours about declining laptop quality that have been around for at least the last decade are still circulating.rleo25 wrote:I heard that...

In some cases, it's true. In others, such as Thinkpads (from what I've seen), the durability changes and is seen in different ways, but the quality isn't going down overall. For example, my W500 feels more plastic than my father's T60, but my display casing seems far more solid (and the hinges are stiff enough that I can tip the laptop over backwards without moving the screen, even with the 9-cell battery sticking out). The T60 weighs less and couldn't do that, even when new.
