My X301 with 128SSD is dead quite except for a very small fan whisper that I can only hear if I put my ear right next to the exhaust port. No clicking. Other than the fan and the CD/DVD drive, there are no moving parts. Heck after hours of use my laptop is only slightly warm on he bottom.

I have the same problem. Interestingly, the clicking is correlated to a mouse-click. More interestingly, if you're wearing headphones, the sound comes through the headphones. I've not found an obvious setting or registry entry, but I'm more of a driver than a mechanic. Maybe someone else can follow this lead more successfully.

You must be kidding usATP wrote:...but I own two OCZ SSD drives and they make noticeable noise when accessed.
I believe this is just the impression of being so. Headphones could sometimes "transmit" some specific noises from the near environment due to the fine mechanics in them (membranes etc.) and thus create an impression that you hear the noise from within them.ndonahue wrote:More interestingly, if you're wearing headphones, the sound comes through the headphones.

Re: X300 SSD makes clicking sound
what part of Solid State Drive is not clear..
they simply lack any capacity to make noise unless thrown against the wall.. in which case the noise they make is not money draining from your pocket because they are solid state and thus there is nothing to be damaged beyond the connector..
and maybe the wall if its thin drywall..
the noise could be coming from something else..
fan was mentioned and headphones were mentioned..
fan is mechanical and they do have a reputation for creating noise..
and headphones might pick up some electronic noise and amplify it..
so, if the SSD is the culprit it would be electronic onterference through the speakers (or headphones)..

Re: X300 SSD makes clicking sound
I had a weird experience yesterday. My X301 suddenly started to make strange hard drive spinning type of noise. Later, It actually came from one of the speakers. I had to restart the machine to get the speaker back to normal. I wonder that may be the culprit. so far, the problem has not resurfaced yet.
