T42p shut down with hot tea

#1 Post by gpmoo7 » Wed Nov 26, 2008 11:49 am

(Sorry for my bad english)

Hello to all.

Hope you're good.
Me ? My T42p 2373-HTG seems to be dead after it received some hot tea on the Keyboard. :( :(

I would need your help about one thing.
I plan to buy a new motherboard but a T42* one because I didnt find a T42P motherboard... (no luck)

So, I took some information and I noticed that the Video Chipset on the T42 and T42P models are different !
T42 work with a ATI Radeon Mobility 7500 chipset
and on my T42p, it<s a ATI mobility Firegl t2 128mo...

I think that about the memory it should be ok.

So, will my computer work if I replace my T42P* motherboard by a T42 one, please ? (are all the t42p"s components will be compatible on the t42 motherboard?)
I saw some T42 motherboard on ebay.

Thank you in advance

Bye.

You can use it and all the parts will fit perfectly, make sure you put some thermal compound on the CPU.

One suggestion, you can post a want to buy post in the marketplace here at the forum and maybe one of the members can sell you the T42p board that you need.

Not so fast. Your model has a UXGA screen. The basic Ati 7500 won't drive the 1600X1200 resolution.

I hope it was a real cup of tea, made with boiling water onto loose leaves in a teapot (not one of those awful tea bags) and had milk added. 8)

The T series Thinkpads have drain holes to allow for spills to drain away. Switch off your machine and place it in an airing cupboard (on a towel) for a few hours and it should be OK.

Thank you all for your replies !

Guess what, all.
After a couple of hours (and a couple of minutes under a hot temperature), my motherboard turn into a dry one and I tested it and it worked !
Yes for the for the moment, it works.

But my keyboard is...how to say... you know all the keys are like GLued*. It's too much difficult to press a key because of the sugar lol.
I am looking for a French Azerty Keyboard right now.
Difficult to find one :-/

Anyway, Thank you all for your advises !
I apreciated it.

Bye :)

Turn off the power to your machine and remove the battery.
On the base of your machine there are 3 screws marked with the number 3 and a symbol that looks like a keyboard. Get a very good quality Philips screwdriver and remove the screws. Then turn your machine right way up, open the lid, and you should be able to lift out the keyboard. (There is one electrical connector to unclip.)

When the key board is free wrap the electrical connector of the keyboard in a plastic bag so that it is waterproofed. Then give the keyboard a good wash in warm, soapy water. Then rinse it thoroughly, and dry it out completely. When it is dry you can remove the waterproofing and reassemble your thinkpad.

I hope this helps.

(P.S. Try taking your tea without sugar. The milk should be sweet enough. :) )
