T30 2366-41U Memory Upgrade Time

#1 Post by shigs25 » Wed Nov 26, 2008 2:16 pm

The memory that I currently have is a Samsung 38L4696 FRU PN 10K0031. The thinkpad website says that a T30 can support: PC2100 DDR SDRAM 200-pin non-parity SoDIMM (*) 266MHz 1GB

I have found many on ebay but they dont spell out the PIN or speed in some cases but are all T30s 200 pin with a 266MHz speed so it really doesnt matter if they list that since no other options exist?

I found this ebay auction but I wanted to confirm with the experts here if it will work and if there is anything else I need to realize about upgrading software.

Take a look at this Memory compatibility - Notebooks. I'm not to familiar with T30's but this has been useful list for me. You can use pc2100 or pc2700 which I think is cheaper to find.

You can do better than that pricewise, any PC2100/2700 (DDR266/333) laptop RAM will work up to 2GB...

The IBM site says that the T30 can support 266MHz and 1GB but are you saying that 333MHz and up to 2GB will work or will my PC only be able to use 1GB of it at the lower speed?

thanks!

IBM's site still displays info which was true when this machines were launched, and 512MB was the largest DIMM available...

The reason I've mentioned PC2700 (DDR333) is that it's much easier to find nowadays than PC2100 (DDR266). Your machine will run at PC2100 speeds regardless of what memory type is installed.

And in case you were wondering, yes, I've proven all of the above on my own ThinkPads and am not the only one... :D

Hope this helps.

Well that settles it. Thanks again for everyone chipping in.

I did find a simlar ebay auction like the like above and I bought (2) Samsung 1GB PC2700s.

Does anyone find that their T30 runs better with 2GBs compared to 1GB? If not I can always sell one but I wonder if the difference is atleast noticable.

thanks
