Dock II with faulty notebook eject button

#1 Post by istel » Fri Nov 28, 2008 4:21 am

Hi All,

I'll like to know if it is possible to replace the Dock II's faulty eject mechanism (I'm unable to eject my R50p out of my Dock II when I press the eject button below the power button) with the eject mechanism from another IBM replicator or Mini Dock for the T40/R50 series?

If not, how can I fix this issue as my notebook gets stuck to the docking station every time I need to use the docking station.

Thanks a lot

Cheers

I would guess that you have to take the docking station apart and figure out what piece(s) is(are) broken and then replace it(them). You probably have to use parts obtained from an identical dock.

The obvious follow-up question is: since you say your laptop gets stuck "every time" you use the docking station, how are you removing it?

thanks rkawakami for the quick response.

I managed to open up the dock and found out that for some reason, the springs attached to the two catches both came off. After putting them back to their original position, it appears to be working again.

Also, if I'm not wrong, the dock II requires power as well in order for the eject button to pop up?

Another thing I'm concerned about that is not entirely related to this thread is that since the T42p and R50p series are prone to the GPU failure. Will the dock cause the mobo to flex more easily and thus accelerate the rate of GPU failure?

Cheers

Anyone has experience with the T42p/r50p motherboard/chassis flexing after prolong usage on the dock?

I've tried searching around in the forum but haven't really managed to get any posts on it.

Cheers
