New watch, yay!
Hung out with a few friends at the mall today and on the way out, I saw a nice watch at Macy's and just had to have it. It's a Skagen and aside from being thin, really light and very pretty, it makes almost no noise what so ever. I love it so much; even if I'm now gonna be making payments on my Macy's account for at least two months. I figure I buy cheapo watches all the time because I keep breaking them so I decided instead of continuing to waste countless dollars at discount stores, I'd buy something really nice and see how long it lasts.

Pretty yet different and inexpensive...way to go...got one for my wife a couple of years ago and it's still running strong while showing no wear...knock wood.
Highly recommended.

For those wondering where the awkward word "Skagen" comes from, it is named after the city of Skagen.. about a 100 miles from me: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... 7_ubt.jpeg (0.5 MB)

Nice watch, Alex ...
I got a new watch as a gift a couple of months back ... it is a seiko SARB031 ... automatic mechanical watch. Yes, mechanical ... looks like this:

Call me old fashioned, but I have always had a love for these mechanical watches ... something mesmerizing about a watch that has a seconds hand that keeps ticking - nay, sweeping.

I haven't worn a watch in a while, and certainly not a $175 watch, but do these typically make noise? How and why?AlphaKilo470 wrote:it makes almost no noise what so ever.

usually the mechanism on an analog watch makes a lil noise. its not much but if you put your ear up to it or if its dead silent in the room you can hear the tick tick tick tick........ skagen's are silent, very thin, very light and are pretty sturdy. i like them because i dont like heavy watches smacking around on my wrist.

Gator, that Seiko looks nice. I used to own a Seiko many years back; parents gave it to me for my birthday and after two years I lost it in a kayaking mishap. I later bought a Pulsar resembling the old Seiko and have since given it to a friend as a gift. Both watches looked great.
BTW, would you believe that the day after I bought the watch, I received in the mail a bundle of coupons for Macy's. Because you know, having them just one day earlier would be too convenient. Oh well, I'll go ask for a price adjustment next time I feel like driving to the mall.

Thanks Alex ... the skagen is nice too but I am a not big fan of rose gold ... i like plain ol' stainless steel
Too bad about the coupons though ...
I have had my eye on the mondaine watch too:

That red dot reminds me of the trackpoint on thinkpads ...

I've had my Tissot PR 100 since 1992.
Looks exactly like the picture below, except mine is two tone.
The ring around the glass and the small 2 stripes in the strap are gold-colored.
There is not a single scratch on it anywhere!

When I go to bed, I always look for a place to hide my watch (simple quartz Q&Q) because of the noise it produces, not that it´s too noisy, rather that I´m too sensitive I guessqviri wrote:Wow, I know who to ask when wondering about noise level of a laptop or a hard drive nowskitty4gzus wrote:usually the mechanism on an analog watch makes a lil noise. its not much but if you put your ear up to it or if its dead silent in the room you can hear the tick tick tick tick........
