trackpoint on X41 appears to be broken

#1 Post by nchoe123 » Sat Nov 29, 2008 10:38 am

not disabled in bios, not seen in either ubuntu live cd or windows XP (installed on CF).

is this something i can check quickly to see if it's worked loose or something?

if it is broken, where do i get it repaired, and how much might it run?

The trackpoint is attached to the keyboard so it's an easy remove/replace by unscrewing the 4 marked screws on the back.
Maybe removing the keyboard and reattaching it is all that will be required to get it working.
If not then Ebay is your friend, a new or used keyboard should be quite inexpensive there.

I must've been confused when I tested; my sister (whose machine this is, technically) tells me that it's been broken for a while. so I ordered a new used keyboard off ebay for under $40.

so far:

8gb transcend 300x MLC CF card $80
CF->1.8" IDE, $16 shipped from hongkong
2gb sodimm ordered, $22
keyboard, $40
16gb SDHC for additional storage, $30.

worth it? maybe?

worst part: discovering that i should've just called up IBM support before August (I've had the laptop in my possession since June) for the broken keyboard and busted hard drive. doooooooooh! i didn't imagine that it would still be covered, so i didn't even check!

i don't know where "booyaa" came from.

but the keyboard off eBay did the trick, the trackpoint is now 100%.

thanks all!

awaiting the 16gb SD and the 2gb SODIMM to make my super X41 complete.
