Convert Original RnR CD Set into DVDs?

#1 Post by ARD » Sat Nov 29, 2008 2:45 pm

Is it possible to have the contents in a original Rescue and Recovery CD set transferred into several DVDs to be used as a bootable recovery set?
I know that the installed RnR can create recovery media of the system and installed programs, but this is different.
If so, how?

I don't know of any way to do it unless R&R Create Recovery Media is used. Even then, the first disc MUST be a CD.

Another alternative would be to use an imaging program such as Ghost 2003 (which I know will write to DVDs) or Acronis (which I believe also does the same thing). Once you have the system the way you want it, write an image onto your DVDs. With Ghost, you can also put the program onto the first disk and make it bootable, thus all you need to do to recover your system is to mount the first DVD and boot from it.

Times change.

The latest Create Product Recovery utility being supplied on T400s will happily burn the first disk (Start Recovery Disk) onto any recordable CD or DVD (including rewritable).

Cheers,

I can tell you that it is technically possible, as someone gave me a set for a T41 that is done that way a few years ago, but I don't know what the method was.

Quite possibly is has been discussed on ThinkPads.com somewhere, but I suspect it would be quite some time ago now.

Cheers,

Bill B.

Good to know Bill, thanks. I just made a set on my T400 and I automatically fed it a CD first. Next time I know.

The change to R&R Mr. Bolton mentions was effective with the R52s and R60 I have. I burned the disks that way and tested them. The only kind of disc that won't work for the boot disk is DVD-RAM (at least, in my version 2.0). That being said, the contents of the boot disk fit on a CD so a DVD is wasted.
