new T42p will drive 1600x1200 DVI monitor out of the box

FYI, after reading all the threads from everyone who needed to download different drivers and hacks to get their DVI monitors to drive at 1600x1200 I was somewhat tentative when my new Dell 2001fp arrived today.

But low and behold, it worked right out of the box with my 2-week old 2373hvu T42p. I fired it up for the first time after connecting to the mini-dock via DVI and wow, 1600x1200 yummy goodness. This is one beautiful monitor with no detectable flaws of any kind. I tried out the VGA cable too and the DVI is noticably sharper. Not bad for the $550 I got it for via the Delf game coupon and other stackable coupons found on the coupon sites.

According to my device manager, the driver that came with the thinkpad is an ATI MOBILITY FIRE GL T2 version 6.14.10.6476 dated 8/25/2004

Now I just gotta figure out how to make it work with my wife's T30 that is running Windows 2000.

Oh, the current driver doesn't appear to support rotating this monitor to portrait mode but I don't think I'm going to mess with that just yet. The full-page text display is good enough in 1600x1200 mode, I don't think I need to go to 1200x1600 for page layout work.

Yep, Dell had some great deals going.

$749 regular price for 20" 2001FP
- 25% off with Dellf Coupon
-$40 with stackable coupon found via google search
-free shipping during christmas season
+ 8% Texas sales Tax
-------------------------------------------
$563 delivered to my front door.

It would have been $521 had I not lived in Texas.

I'll take some pics and put them up on the pics page.
