Need advice: T61 14" widescreen

#1 Post by mgb » Sun Nov 30, 2008 11:54 am

Have the opportunity to buy a T61 14" widescreen with the following build specs:

T7300(2GHz), 2GB RAM, 80GB 5400rpm HD, 14.1in 1280x800 LCD, Intel X3100, DVD, Intel 802.11abgn wireless, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, 6c Li-Ion, WinVista Business 32

It has 6 months left on warranty. I plan to use primarily for word, excel, MS project, web surfing, and a bit of light photoshop.

So, big question is the 14" widescreen. I've used 14" regular screens for years and am fine. Also fine with the 15" wide my son has on his HP. But not sure of 14" wide for my purposes. Any one with similar experience?

Also, lack of cd burner is a concern. Although I might be ok with an external burner.

Finally, any thoughts on a reasonable price?

Thanks.

What do you mean lack of CD burner? All the T61s come with a burner, what happened to it?

The question is with resolution. If you are used to 1400x1050 (SXGA+), then the 1280x800 might simply not be enough space for you to work with, regardless of it being widescreen or not. What is the resolution on the 15.4" wide HP laptop?

Per the seller, it has a dvd rom, no burner. I haven't seen the unit.

I've only used my son's HP casually, so will have to look again at that resolution.
