Need to improve graphic speed to play poker 600e using xp
Hello:
I just got this thinkpad and upgraded the os to xp home and put in more ram to 288mb.
The problem is at first I was able to play poker online with only mininmal problems with it being slow. And that was with the 160mb ram.
For whatever reason I did a system restore to a week prior, about the time I intalled the xp. and have since tried to play online and the graphics just dont catch up. It is way to slow to the point I cant even play. I then upgraded to 288mb and I think it got a little better but still not playable.
What can I do or did I do to make it slow up. I dont run anyother programs. I just use this computer for email and poker.
Please help.
Thanks
Sumitup

Welcome to thinkpads.com!
While a 600E does not have the video processing required for most of today's games, running XP on only 288MB is probably one of the things which is slowing you down. Some 600E systems are limited to 416MB (32MB on board, 128MB and 256MB) Others can go up to 544MB (32MB and two 256MB). All of these are "low density" modules.
You might also want to check the color depth setting in your video driver. If you're at 16 million colors (24-bit), go to 65K (16-bit). There may also be some hardware acceleration settings in the video setup utility that you can play with.

Hello:
Thanks for the quick reply...... but why did it work ok last week when I first started using it and it only had 160mb ram. And now it is so slow it is unplayable.
Could something have gotten screwed up when I did the system restore?
I did try the 16bit and no change.
Do you think I should reformat and reinstall xp again?
Is there any programs that will accelerate the video?
Thanks

Not sure why 160MB seemed faster than 288MB
. Without knowing exactly what the system restore did to your system it's hard saying what specifically to change to get you back to the faster performance. If you are using a default video driver instead of the NeoMagic driver then that could explain some of the slowness.
You can also try going back to the same 160MB memory configuration and see what that does. If it does get faster, then open up Task Manager and see how many processes are running and the stats in the Performance tab. Compare that information to the system when it runs 288MB and that might give you some clues.
Using the video drivers supplied by IBM should give you the best performance. I don't know if there are any NeoMagic drivers newer than what is being offered for download here:
