Techdeals coupon error?

I've clicked on several Techdeals (Logicbuy) links recently, (and in the past), and somehow the deals being advertised are NOT what the Logicbuy page is advertising. Take the X61s deal going on right now....

If you read the Logicbuy advertisement, it states...

Base config includes:

* Core 2 Duo L7500 LV; 12.1" XGA LCD; 2GB RAM; 160GB HDD
* 802.11n WiFi; Vista Business; 4-cell battery; 1yr warranty

However, when you click on the Lenovo buy now link, the base config is nowhere near what's being advertised. The Ram, HDD, Wireless, and Vista Business are all "options" which raise the price from $1540 (advertised) to $1809!!!

What's up with that????

Now, I don't mind someone making a little extra money via click-throughs, but at least the deals being advertised should be as stated... or at least updated so I know what the "real deal" is. By the way, I'm in California, and tried this well before the 3PM PST cutoff time. Heck if I could have gotten that deal, I would've bought one!

Am I missing something???

Hi there,

Thanks for raising this but pinging the admin or contacting us directly is probably a more viable solution rather than make a statement "Tech Deals False Advertisement". We've saved people hundreds if not thousands. Now, to respond:

1st: We apologize for not updating the specs as we re-posted the same model that just ran last week with a different coupon and failed to look at the specs for this current promotion. The ONLY major difference we notice was the RAM is 1GB and Hard Drive is 80GB instead of the 2GB / 160GB configuration stated. Again, it was an error on our part.

2nd: Coupon worked until 3PM as stated. People generally complain coupons don't work because they've copied & pasted it with a space at the end of the field. This will cause it to fail. NO SPACES AFTER THE COUPON CODE, it must be 100% exact. That's how sensitive Lenovo's system is. We're going to raise this to Lenovo.

3rd: Although a coupon like this for the X61s won't happen anytime soon, there is a new coupon running tonight that is close to it.

I was thinking of emailing admin... in fact, I had already composed the pm, but I thought I shouldn't bother him so I deleted it and posted in the forum. In the end, Bill ended up being bothered anyways.

I do understand that Logicbuy has saved people thousands, but regardless, you have the responsibility to have correct information on your website. And thats the bottom line.

Had this been the very first time I went through this, I wouldn't have mentioned it as "false advertising", but as it is, this is not the first time, nor the second, nor the third. As stated, I don't mind if you make money via click throughs and I don't mind participating in that effort, however, after so many times, I feel I have to say something.

The "ONLY" major difference? The differeces are as I stated... on Lenovo, the RAM, HDD, Wirelss, and Vista Business are ALL options. There is no way to miss this. Just the fact that you pretend to miss it helps me to understand why I've clicked through so many of your links just to find they were different from what you advertise on Logicbuy.

I know that this site is not the only place you advertise from. You are all over the net. It's YOUR responsibility to have correct information or do you think it's acceptable not to? Is it ok for me to say to one of my customers... "oh, I'm done fixing your computer and the ONLY major difference is it's only ALMOST working... you can pay me now"!

This thread was posted to bring to light a problem you have and if you had been less complacent about your attitude of placing incorrect adds, I wouldn't have posted anything.

You're telling me something I don't already know. We have 3 editors publishing hundreds of deals and trying to update them day by day. If you notice an error 3-4 times as you claim, let us know, we'll address it ASAP.

I would pm you the errors, but I don't remember what they were. It takes me a long time before I make a comment as I'm quite tolerable of mistakes. The errors occured over time so there is no way to find them again... not to mention the deals have long been over.

@ makia While everyone is appreciative that you brought an error to light, perhaps next time you can point it out without going to Defcon 5 in the first message.

@Techdeals Proofread your ads before you post them here.

I'm done here so I won't point out another add that's currently running also in error. I'm sure Logicbuy can find it if they read their ads.

Thanks Mod for updating. Raising the issue as a "false advertisement" points the finger that we intentionally & wrongfully acted in a way to attain clicks (we don't generate revenue based on clicks) - which is not the case and raises this topic to another level.

On the contrary, feedback like this reminds us to have a keen eye.

I'm completely open to feedback, always have and always willl. If you point out errors, it will be addressed. We actually need people informing us if we've mistakenly mis-typed or failed to update specs - just due to the nature of this kind of frequent & time sensitive publishing.

Feel free to email me at ANY time and I'll make sure it gets updated ASAP. I'm just as fast as Bill to respond, well maybe not but close. I'll be more on top of these errors. We'll do a more review this week through next week on what has been published and outdated.
