T400 / Windows XP BSOD on dock

#1 Post by tbessie » Thu Dec 04, 2008 3:14 am

I've seen people posting about a known problem about the T400 (and others) running Windows Vista, getting a BSOD when docked with an external monitor on DVI.

However, I'm running Windows XP Pro, and have the same thing happen.

In general, it is like this (I haven't tried all variants):

1. System is on Standby
2. Place system in dock
3. Press power button on dock
4. System comes up, Windows login screen shown
5. System suddenly goes black, then BSOD comes up

Does anyone have this specific problem, or a BSOD associated with docking when using Windows XP?

When the system is on standby, it is waiting to resume the way it was before. It also assumes the hardware is the same, so when it wakes to the wrong hardware it dies. It will do this if docked in hibernation too. Wake the computer and log back in before docking and you shouldn't have an issue.
