s-video issues

#1 Post by dylanirion » Thu Jan 13, 2005 9:23 pm

I tried searching the forums for similar problems with no luck. So, has anyone else encountered problems with their s-video connection disconnecting while connected to a TV? I use an s-video to RCA cable, and will have the image randomly disconnect on me. Are there known issues with the s-video to RCA conversion? I've had days where I can watch an entire movie on my tv, then other days where it wont last longer than 5 minutes. Thanks in advance for any help.

edit: i forgot to mention it's a t40

I havnt experience your problem at such, but my solution to the whole thing was to get a scart plug with an s-video input. And then connect the computer to the scart plug using the s video cable.

Thats what I know about connect to your tv using an svideo connection.

Hope it helps.

I have a T23 and havent had that problem. Ive used a generic s-video cable (from a dish network box) but now use the one in the link on the bottom. It's 12' long and has a audio plug and it wasnt that expensive either. As for the store, they were quick to answer any questions on the phone and shipped same day. From TX to MO, it was 2 days priority (i paid extra since it was the holidays).

i think i got my cable off s-video.com aswell. this happens on every tv i've tried, and when it does, it knocks out the audio too. I'm wondering if RCA can't handle all the informatin s-video is sending it, and it disconnects to prevent damage or something.

Try the following steps:

1./Attach the cable in the TV.
2./Attach the cable in the laptop.
3./THEN switch on the laptop.

The problem isn't getting an image on the TV, it's keeping the image on the TV. However it looks as though no one else has encountered this problem. Maybe I can get my hands on another S-Video cord and try my luck.

I tried using my T23 to play dvds on a TV set with Svideo input, and the quality of the output (even at 640x 480 necessary to match the tv size) was lousy. Not nearly as good as a stand alone dvd player. Anyone know why?
