I had my X24 repaired, and while it's now (so far) working 100%, the technicians were rather careless of collateral damage.
There are lots of scratches on the cover around the trackpoint mouse buttons.
Is there a way to restore the surface?
I'm sure a fine sandpaper could smooth it down, but doubt it could restore the texture.

You could try taking the keyboard off, then use a very fine abrasive such as Brasso (copper polish) or a scratch remover for car lacquer.
But as suggested above, try and get Lenovo first to fix their 'balls-up'.

I thought of Brasso, but from the strong odour it seems to have solvents in it -- I wonder if this would react badly with plastic. Has anyone actually tried this?RealBlackStuff wrote:You could try taking the keyboard off, then use a very fine abrasive such as Brasso (copper polish) or a scratch remover for car lacquer.
What I've done so far is smooth the scratches down with fine (600 SiC) sandpaper, then rubbed it with a damp cloth. Not quite virginal, but it's passable. I may try to pretty it up more later.
It wasn't Lenovo. This is long, long, out of warranty. I had a had time finding anyone who could fix it, had access to the parts, and wasn't going to charge more than the replacement cost. I'm a little annoyed at the scratches, but don't want to make a fuss about it -- I had just about written it off until I found this place, a little hole-in-the wall repair/secondhand shop in a mall.RealBlackStuff wrote:But as suggested above, try and get Lenovo first to fix their 'balls-up'.
