Does the ATI V3200 support component out through VGA port?

#1 Post by LPC » Fri Dec 05, 2008 2:21 pm

Hi,

I have a T43P with a ATI Mobility FireGL V3200. I want to hook it up to my Panisonic 42" 1080p plasma. I found this component adaptor. Is the V3200 card able to support it. My next thought was S video, but I will only get up to 576i. Any ideas?

Normally you would use a dock and a DVI to HDMI adapter.

T60 2623-DCU/SXGA+ IPS/ATI X1400
T43p 2668-H8U/UXGA IPS/ATI V3200
R50p 1832-NU1/UXGA IPS/ATI FireGL T2

As far as I know, no Thinkpad supports component out through the VGA port. Dock and DVI out is the way to go for HDTVs.

There are DVI/HDMI combo cables or DVI/HDMI adapters for using common HDMI cables. We have one TV that has a DVI input so made it easy.

I am using an old A31p for TV service. Main use is for photo slideshows but sometimes play DVD movies when all other players fail to play. The freeware XnView has a reasonable useful slideshow function. This A31p had been mod to use an internal 11n miniPCI card and a 3rd antenna was installed. All the photos are stored on a NAS. The 11n connection helped to maintain a decent frame to frame transition time. I should run a Cat5E cable to the TV.

That is exactly what I plan to do. I have already purchased the cat5e to finish the gigabit network. I plan to hold all my pics, video, and music on a NAS and run it all through a dedicated HTPC. I wanted to use the T43p while I am building the HTPC for now. So I am going to use this and this for the t43p hook up.

I have two NAS, an old Tritton SOHO NAS 120 and a new Maxtor Shared Storage 500GB with Gb port. But the transfer rate turned out to be similar. I thought the Maxtor would be much faster.

May be my switch is the limiting factor. But I had changed from a 10/100 3COM switch to a Linksys Gb switch already.

Monoprice.com is pretty good. I will use them in the future.

Monoprice.com had the best prices I could find for wiring and cables.

Yes, you need a Gb switch also you wont get gb transfers rates on your nics if they interface with PCI you need PCI express.
