R51 Drivers Issue

#1 Post by tehclassicrocker » Fri Dec 05, 2008 3:17 pm

I just wiped an IBM Think Pad R51 with Windows 2000, and XP is on it now. It wont connect to the internet over ethernet/wireless and there is no sound. Is there an all in one driver or something to download? I went to IBM's website to download drivers for the audio and wireless and they never worked...I downloaded the drivers on another computer from IBM, then I put them on a flash drive to the desktop of the Think Pad, I double clicked it the said they installed, I restarted the computer, still no sound and internet...Did I install them wrong?

How is your machine networked and what happens when you try to connect to the internet?

On the bottom of your laptop is the TYPE number, looks like TYPE 1859-54G.
What is yours?
And what wifi card does your laptop have?
Based on that we can tell you what network driver to download.

After that you need to download and install .Net Framework:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en
Then go to http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... PDATE.html
and download and install System Update.
Then run SystemUpdate, it will download all the drivers for your R51.

I installed the files you gave me, the R51 wont connect to the net even over ethernet. I get to about 15% on the system update until i get an error. Any Ideas?

Double-clicking the icon merely extracts the driver to the specific folders. You still have to run the set-up file.

Look, if you want our help, then please answer the questions!

What is your R51 TYPE (7-character)?
What is the exact make/model of your wifi card?

as someone stated above - after you download the drivers from Lenovo site - when you doubleclick them, and choose "install" - it's only the extracticn process of the archive - they usualy get extracted in a folder called "DRIVERS" on the partition of the hdd on which the OS is installed
find them, and run the "exe" files
ex: T30, TR451, TR453, R51, R52, X40, X60, R61, T400
X200 - P8600 2.66Ghz, 3G, 250G
G50-70 - 3558U 2.4Ghz, 4G, 1T
