SSD install tips needed for T60p
Good day,
I will be installing a Samsung 128GB SATA-II (3.0 GB/sec) 2.5" Solid State Disk Drive. (Model # MMDOE28G5MPP-0VA) in my T60p.
My plan is to clone the current drive to the SSD and make a quick swap.
I would like to know if I need to update any controller drivers etc. to make the SSD drive work.
Any tips you may have are appreciated.
Thank you,

Re: SSD install tips needed for T60p
UPDATE: I took the advice provided by TTY and it worked great. I could not "clone" the drive (tried to use a USB hard drive adapter) but after a clean install of my system using the IBM disks it worked fine.
I am still installing some of my programs and don't have a lot of time on the new drive but I can notice a marked improvement in speed during boot.
Thanks for the info...

Hi, Jeff,
Can you tell me what happened when you tried but failed to clone your hard drive to the SSD? I'd like to do the same, but I've got about a million programs installed on this T60p, and I wouldn't consider moving to another drive if I had to re-install everything.
I thought I'd use Acronis and an external USB HDD, like I did (smoothly) when I upgraded from a smaller HDD to my current HDD.
Also, is that Samsung really a $4,000 drive? I'm curious why you selected that instead of, say, the Intel X25-M, which is only 80gig, but also only about $600.
Thanks for any insight.

The Samsung drive cost was $469.00 after the $200.00 cash back through live.com (ebay promotion).
I used Acronis to perform the clone. I used the automatic mode. All of the files looked to transfer to the SSD but I could not get it to boot from this drive. I tried to perform the clone twice but still no go so I ended up using the IBM disks.
To date, the drive is working very well.
Take care,
Jeff B

Nope.. it was not so difficult for me to reload everything....because it has become a yearly process (with all of the hard drive failures)... I have made a special folder with all of my programs and key files... makes the swap much easier.StevenD wrote:Hi, Jeff,
Did you ask Samsung's tech support about it?
