X61s and X61t 50% off... legit?

#1 Post by virge » Sat Dec 06, 2008 4:20 am

I'm not sure this is the right place to post this. I thought maybe it should go in the "Deal of the Day" but I wasn't sure this is legit. Seriously 50% off sounds too good to be true...

Tried entering the coupon at checkout, worked for me from the second try. Looks great.

Yes this is legit. I'd pull the trigger on the tablet but the SXGA+ screen is not an option for it. I was under the impression that SXGA+ was standard for all X61t?

I think this is Canada not USA. Wonder if that matters to US purchasers?

In fact, using a "middleman" company that specialises in transferring good from the USA to Russia I can get this X61s for $700 shipped to my local postal office.

The bad thing is that I actually don't need it as I have just bought an X40 and I don't feel like spending another $700 for another ThinkPad. However, this offer is great since local prices for a X61s start from $1300.

P.S. New ThinkPad X61s for $565 shipped. This is what economic crisis look like. :? Here in Russia everybody is raving about Lenovos 3000 G410 that were sold here for $360-420.

No kidding, a nicely equipped new IdeaPad Y430 is selling for $550 over here. Refurb T61's going for the same. Laptops are getting cheap boys and girls. Its crazy.

It's just an impression, but my take on it is basically the same as what's happening in the housing market around the (previously hot) Dallas/Ft. Worth suburb market. The builders are caught between a rock and a hard place right now. If they don't build, they don't have anything to sell and they go out of business. If they build, then they have to sell at whatever the market will bear to get rid of inventory. Bad for other home sellers (such as regular homeowners trying to sell their house), but great for purchasers!

In the case of Lenovo, these machines were either already manufactured and in inventory before the X200 or parts in the pipeline that they needed to clear out.

Just my .02 on it.

Darn Lenovo for tempting me! Nothing I do on my portable machine requires more than a PIII, but these prices are practically irresistible.

I just priced out an X61s with a 160gb 7200RPM drive and ultralight screen. It looks like upgrades are 50% off too.

Are you using the contractor purchase program or government/education program? You can't have both, I've tried. >_>

Oh, man you are a loser. I already told my colleagues a story of a man from forum.thinkpads.com who could not afford a x61s and now he bought it for $515 shipped - as an illustration of the USA financial crisis, along with a story of a man who just bought a tourbillon watch for $995 with a discount of a couple thousands. :)

I am in Russia and still considered buying it though pushing it through customs and repacking at the middleman company would be mess, and you live in the USA, waited for this deal your whole live, seen it here before it ended and missed it? I am sorry for you.

Meh it is just a crappy PC that will be worth less in a year or so.

Not in imminent need of it. I want one with an ultralight display because it seems so much cooler too. I have feeling if I called lenovo very upset they would take care of me.

Each of two cores of the Core 2 Duo L7500 is 25% faster than Pentium M 738 in both floating-point and arithmetics operation. It means that under proper load X61s is 2.5 times faster that my X40 than I bought for $200 and considered a bargain. For $515 X61s definitely was a sweet deal.

I can't believe it! You don't suppose there's any chance of a restock?

They aren't crappy. Just sold out.

Call them and try to place an order and see if they wont let you get the discount, I bet there is a chance that they will.

Darn, I was so close to jumping for it. I just got an x31 and I don't have any need for a laptop, but I was considering buying it for my girlfriend. But I contemplated too long, and now the deal is gone. :( And it was available for Canada too! They rarely offer anything nice in Canada.. Here's hoping something like this might come again.
