hard disk keeps spinning on bootup - t400

i have a 3 month old T400. some of the performance i am pleased with (screen, speed), but when i boot, the hdd keeps spinning for about 10-15 minutes. no idea what it does. i can work, but things are s l o o o w. anybody else has this problem? virus already? any thougths? thanks!

Are you running Vista? Try turning off hard drive indexing.
Disable Vista Indexing.

You may want to check T61 Vista HD keep spinning With that said and all due respect, I second nonny´s suggestion but have to disagree about Harryc´s one ;)
