I'm running Vista Business on a T61 with the Intel 4965 AGN WiFi adapter and the WiFi keeps turning when not connected even though:
1. In the device manager for the 4965 power management is turned off
2. The laptop is plugged in anyway.
Is there any way that I can keep the WiFi on until *I* decide to turn it off?
TIA
WiFi keeps turning off

Hi dfumento,
I run XP on a T60p so I can't say if this works for Vista on a T61, but, it may be worth a try.
There is a document called ThinkPadT60wifi.pdf that gives instructions on fixing the unstable WiFi problem. I've used it and it worked for me. You may need to look for a different configuration option in Vista.
The file is on Rapidshare which should allow you to download for free if you choose the "Free user" option and wait a few seconds.
In that document there are actually three configuration changes to make:
1. Intel(R) PRO/1000 PL Network Connection (Disable "Deep Smart Power Down")
2. Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection (on "Power Management" uncheck "Use default value" and set slider to the Highest)
3. on the Power Management Tab (De-select the option "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power")
The document has very clear instructions with screen captures of the relevant options.
Give this a try. Hopefully it will work.

Re: WiFi keeps turning off
Run "Access Connections".dfumento wrote:I'm running Vista Business on a T61 with the Intel 4965 AGN WiFi adapter and the WiFi keeps turning when not connected even though:

If you use "Basic" mode - choose "Options" .
In "Network" unselect "Allow the wireless LAN radio to be turned off when inactive".
If you use "Advanced" mode - choose "Tools" and then "Global Settings" and unselect "Allow the wireless LAN radio to be turned off when inactive".
Does it work for you?
Regards! Wojtek
