Vista is so slow hiberbating so.............

#1 Post by dorronto » Sun Dec 07, 2008 12:28 pm

I'm sure this has been rehashed here numerous times on the Forum. It takes my T61 anywhere from 1:20 to 2 minutes to hibernate.

I'm thinking about downgrading to XP Pro......

Any suggestions to speed up hibernating with Vista. I know this is a continual problem with this os.

Thanks,
Ron

PS..and yes I'm a newbie using Vista

How much RAM do you have and how much of it is being used? Hibernation transfers everything from RAM to the hard drive so if you have 2GB of RAM and 1.5 GB is being used, it may take a while for it transfer everything. Also some programs (like Antivirus programs) don't hibernate very easily and may take a while to get ready for the computer to hibernate, especially if they are currently doing something.

You can try following: close all windows, close all running programs, terminate the AV processes and explorer.exe and see if that helps at all :)

Thanks for the answers...

I have 2.5GB of ram and I'm not running that many programs.

All windows are closed. No anti-virus is running.

I've changed the KillToTime in my registry.........

Next ?
