cloning hd/recovery cd question

I'm new to the forum and am looking to clone my t41p (40gig HD) to a larger 72k rpm 60gig HD. I have searched around and it seems like i need the recovery cds in order to get the hidden partion on the new drive. My new question is that my friend has a t42 is there a way for me to make recovey disks of his computer? If not what would be the best way of aquiring recovery disks. Sorry if all this has been asked, but i did search around and couldn't really find the answers i needed.
