T43p LCD display issue

#1 Post by beingboston81 » Tue Dec 09, 2008 10:24 pm

I have a T43p that is having an issue with the LCD, there is no picture or back light on the display. I'm able to get a picture using an external monitor though.

My friend's dog knocked it off the table and it was working for a few days with minimal issues, then the laptop started freezing on me, now the display will not work. I opened the laptop and have tried reseating the display cable as well as the RAM.

I haven't had any system freezes since I opened the laptop, but the LCD is still not working.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Tim

I'm guessing the drop cracked the solder connection to the graphics chip.

Remove the keyboard, but keep it's connector attached. Push down on the large ATI (white lettered) GPU. Depending on the machine it may be hidden by a heatsink (copper with heatpipe arrangement). While pushing down, hit the power button. Does the LCD light up?

Hi,

you said, the image you get an a external display is fine? If you look from the site with an acute angle on the ThinkPad's display is there a very poor image you could see hardly? If so, the CCFL (background light) is broken.
