Knoopix is a version of Linux. You can create an image of it on a CD and load it on memory upon PC power up. I have no problem with a Dell Inspiron 1520.hansamurai wrote:Could you be a bit more specific with your problem?
However with an IBM T22, it loads alright and upon displaying X-window it seemed to hung up. Do I need to update the BIOS in the T22? There is one for T30 but that not what I am using.

I'm not sure your T22 meets the minimum requirements for Knoppix. Is it the cd or dvd version?
Have you tried Ubuntu, DSL or Puppy Linux?
They all handle different hardware and one of them may work better on your T22.

Tried only Knoppix, don't understand why it handles differently.

The drivers for video, sound and other things are built in with Linux. Different versions have different drivers included. It is almost impossible to have drivers for everything. That would take multiple DVD's to contain everything. Find the version that fits your hardware best.

I think Knoppix should run on a T22 with a reasonable amount of RAM, but as carbon_unit mentioned drivers are key and that older Savage IX chipset can be tricky with Linux. I'd try one of the numerous boot/cheat codes that Knoppix responds to before I gave up. Since you are having an issue getting into 'X', I'd try the codes associated with video first. Try asking on a knoppix forum as well.

Thanks, I always thought the culprit is the Savage chip, it so happened to be in the T22.Harryc wrote:I think Knoppix should run on a T22 with a reasonable amount of RAM, but as carbon_unit mentioned drivers are key and that older Savage IX chipset can be tricky with Linux.
