Re: what's too hot?
uhmm, what is that in F..?
in the past, heat should not make a thinkpad "beep" at you..
FWIW, they DO get hot under/around the touchpad..
from the video chip..

T40p here. I've run SETI@home for months at a time (which puts the processor at a 100% load) and never had a problem, so why wonder "what's too hot?" The system cools itself down when it gets too hot and the palm rest (right-hand side) never gets above mildly warm (especially when tranferring 30GB back and forth so it is spinning and writing constantly)
If anyone actually fears that their laptop is crashing due to heat, contact IBM. These laptops are meant to work without heat issues (that is, after all, why they have cooling systems.)

you're right..!eriqesque wrote:Actually the wireless card in the T series is right under the trackpad and the GPU is above that kinda under the space bar and the trackpoin select buttons.
only one fan..
it is assumed that the longer fan accomodates the increased heat from the fire GL 9600 128meg super duper special whoopdeedo chip..

Yeah but the touch pad is in the middle.. right beneath your right hand, is the hd-bay
I find that my palmrest is heated when the hard drive is working a bit, without any graphics intensive apps running at all.. so in my case it's most likely the hd.
edit: it's a good idea, to check page two, before you comment 8((
