T40 upgrade wireless network card

Im upgrading my T40 with help from you all. CPU, HDD and RAM.

I need help replacing the wireless network card. What is the best I can do with the T40? My router will support faster speeds, but I only connect at 11Mbps.

Id prefer to replace the internal card....

It's actually pretty simple to physically replace a WiFi card in a T40 Series machine once you've gone to the Lenovo support site and downloaded the "Hardware Maintenance Manual" for your machine.

However, it the rest is a bit more complicated. Only a certain number of MPCI cards are OK to work with your machine without causing the machine to give an error (1802) complaining that there are too many ethernet adapters in the machine. Of course that can be overcome with a fairly common "hack" that will eliminate the error message and allow use of different WiFi adapters.

Basically, there's a "white-list" in the BIOS that tells the machine which WiFi adapters can be recognized in the machine and used. The best bet and simplest is to put a "look for" ad in the marketplace for a B/G or A/B/G adapter that is know to work the T40.
