trying to bring a T30 back to life

#1 Post by winslow » Tue Dec 16, 2008 11:34 pm

picked up an old T30 when powered on nothing would happen so I replaced the motherboard. When I try to power it up I get the same system, nothing. Does that mean that the processor is bad? Anybody with experience here?

Could be many possible problems, memory, problems with the lcd, pulling the memory would be a good start, may even have 2 bad motherboards...
Check for bent pins if you have been moving the cpu between the two motherboards.
Do a search on dead T30 and you will find many troubleshooting suggestions to get you going.

Take the RAM out, see if you get an error code (that shows that the motherboard is good). That may be the problem. Try using a different stick if you have one, or putting the stick in one-at-a-time (only in the good slot.) I'd also look at the processor (check for beep, try another, be sure to re-seat properly with compound.) You could also try taking out the modem and wireless card, in case one of those is bad (won't beep.) Do the fans turn on, any lights or sounds, and can you power on with an external monitor?

I tried replacing/ switching modules/ removing daughter cards, ect before I replaced the motherboard. Will the mboard still give the beep codes if the processor is bad?

The battery was dead, I put in another battery and the computer turns on but the screen is lit but blank. Could the LCD be bad?
