Audio Card in Dock II problem

#1 Post by rye8910 » Wed Dec 17, 2008 12:32 am

I need more than one set of outputs (sending out from different sources), so I've tried two different PCI cards in my Dock II...and while the cards are detected, and the drivers install with success, whenever I try to play something...it just sits and sits, but no sound, or activity from the program (slider movement, counter, etc) tha tindicates anything would be playing...

Could it be a conflict with the integrated sound on the T41? Windows isn't reporting any conflicts, but that doesn't count for anything.

Same result in Windows 2000 and in Windows XP.
Waiting for a T41.

No ideas?
Perhaps someone can tell me how to disable the integrated sound in the BIOS? There's no explicit option for it...

What software and what drivers?

For multicard-multichannel you'll probably need to run one card on the normal windows drivers (via control panel-sounds and audio) and one direct on ASIO or wdm drivers.

Alternatively buy a multiple output card such as the delta audio 1010.

It really depends what software you're trying to use. One piece of software with multiple outs, or multiple pieces of software each with individual outs.

It affects all software I try. Even the event sounds test in Windows does it.

I'm trying a different audio card with ASIO support, as soon as it arrives. The card I was using, (Creative SB X-Fi extreme, then tried Audigy SE), used Creative's drivers.

Tried ASIO4ALL with them too, and yes, tried disabling Soundmax in the device manager already. As for drivers, WDM was pretty much the only way I tried, as the cards didn't support ASIO.

If the next card (Audigy 2 ZS, claimed to work on ThinkWiki with the Dock II) doesn't work, then it'll be a Delta 40 next, and if no luck happens there, ugh...then something USB...but I'd rather avoid USB audio hardware, as nothing available I've seen fits in with my needs.

I had a X-Fi Extreme Music in my Dock II and it worked like a charm. On docking, the X-Fi was detected and even selected as Default Sound Device. On undocking, the system defaulted back to the built-in Audiomax.
Deactivating the onboard Audio was not necessary.

However, this was around 2-3 years ago, so I have no idea how creative drivers changed since then / nor if it depends on the Thinkpad (had a T42).

(before I purchased the X-Fi, I also tried some USB-Interfaces (around 4-5 different solutions), only one (philips aurilium) was more or less usable. today i would buy something like that:

Which Dock II are you using?
Any links to ebay would be helpful.
T42 -2373H6U
1 gig Ram
60 gig 7200rpm HD
DVD-Burner
New PC owner, I had an iBook.

Does more than one version of the Dock II exist...? I thought there was only one model... or are you comparing the full Dock vs. the Port Replicator...??
