System Battery ?

#1 Post by tomkit66 » Wed Dec 17, 2008 10:05 am

Hi,

I sold my T43p a few days ago. Since I did not use it for a few months and it is over 3 years old, the purchaser told me that if he starts the machine a blue screen shows up and he has to adjust the system clock time. This happens every time when he shuts the machine completely down and restarts it.

So I would say this might be the little system battery inside the mobo?

Question: What kind of battery do I need and is it possible without any knowledge to change it myself without destroying the T43p ;-)

Thanks in advance
Tom

It certainly sounds like the backup battery has run flat - they usually last 3 years or more - is that about right?

I don't know about the T43, but in the T42 you can replace it after removing the keyboard and the Palm Rest. Not difficult but a lot of screws to remove *and make a note where they came from* - there are a number that would fit in the wrong places! The first power-up after replacing it takes a long time, presumably as the system is re-establishing the BIOS configuration and you need to check and re-set any settings whose defaults you don't like (the clock will be wrong too, of course).

The battery itself is a CR2032, but it's in an insulating sleeve, with a cable welded to it, with the right connector on the end. Not a DIY job to make this - just buy the right one already made up.

Cheers,
