Hard drive upgrade for T61
I've just acquired a new T61 to replace my hard working T42. Lovely machine which I got at a very good price.
However, the hard drive is only 80 GB, and since I need to run Linux as well as Windows, I'm looking to upgrade the disk almost immediately.
I was thinking in terms of one of the 5400.3 or5400.4 Seagate drives (had an 80 GB 5400.3 in my T40, which I liked better than the Hitachi 160 GB I've got in the T42).
Are there any problems I should watch for when upgrading the disk? Also, any alternative suggestions as to which drive would be be best for the machine?
My intention is to image the existing Vista Business install to a USB drive, then restore the image once I've got the new drive installed. I did that with the T42 (using Dfsee) and had no problems with the procedure.
Any other suggestions are welcome....

Create a set of recovery disks before you upgrade...
My personal preference would be Seagate, but get it fast because they'll be changing the warranty terms as of next year, with five years becoming three.
My $0.02 only...

Thanks. I'd forgotten about that. All tends to reinforce my inclination to go with the Seagate.FredGarvin wrote:A Seagate drive will also get you a free download of DiscWizard from Seagate's website. DiscWizard is a limited version of True Image, a very good backup utility if you don't want to mess with Rescue and Recovery, which I don't.
One question - looking at the docs that came with the T61, there is talk of a 'tab' used to pull the drive out. Can you tell me how this is fixed - is it something I can move from one drive to another, or will this give me problems with a new drive?
Thanks...
paul.
