Anybody have/had both machines and can give a comparison.

Especially interested in video quality when running on battery.

Welcome to the forum!

You won't notice much difference, unless you get a X60s or X61s with ultralight LCD, which I found to be nicer than the standard ones. Apart from that, it's business as usual-same old washed out TN panels...

Thanks. Unfortunately, the 12" ultralights are no more.

Other than the extra brightness of the ultralights, I don't know that there's anything special about them.

I have both, x31 and x61s machines.
In my opinion, x61s is brighter than x31.
I can't compare them now, because x31 is at my work. I bring it for Christmas (to make some updates) so i can send comparison photography of both displays.

This is expected simply due to the age difference of the machines. Screens get dimmer with time. When we bought an X61 to replace my girlfriend's X32, the brighter screen of the newer machine was immediately noticed.
