Hi everyone,
I have two hardware issues to report, both BIOS-related, and in the past, I have sensed that even the moderators at the Lenovo forums don't particularly make it their job to queue up users' problems for the tech teams. This is not a rhetorical question, but an issue that could be stickied: How do you get Lenovo's attention?
Let me give you the two scenarios, so you can see that I'm not just whining about something that has a known fix. If you've got two cents to chip in, then feel free to address either the question about how to encourage Lenovo to respond, or tackle one of these hardware issues specifically.
First is an experience that a user named Harkman is having over at the Lenovo forum. He says he has bought an eSATA ExpressCard adapter that actually can boot -- on other laptops -- but it doesn't on his T60. (Why care? Well, wouldn't some of us like to be able to boot from an external RAID array, and run the workstation at actual SATA speeds? If you have a card of this nature, it will work.) Most eSATA cards will not boot, but if they have their own BIOS, they can. It doesn't seem to be working out on the T60, which won't init the other BIOS correctly. Worth checking out his thread at the other forum:

The second question is an answer to what is going on with my RAM. I bought Kingston HyperX 800 MHz CAS4 RAM, that also has a 667MHz preset that should work on my T61p. The BIOS preset is 3-4-4-10. I'm getting the dreaded 0xc0000221 error at boot. That post can be read here:

Since the BIOS in notebooks is relatively inflexible, I assume these are both questions that are going to have to wait for answers from Lenovo engineers.
How do you get an issue into Lenovo's problem queue?

Are you sure you want to format?

BIOS problem: Missing SPD Table
The other fact to add to this is that I have tried every possible program out there that reads RAM SPD Tables, and none of them -- none of them -- report the SPD Table for my RAM. And that goes for all of my RAM, not just the new sticks.
Just got off the phone with Kingston, and they confirmed that the mystery of not being able to read the SPD Table off of this RAM is a BIOS problem. The BIOS isn't configured correctly to report the SPD Table to the OS via the SMBus.
Grrr.
Definitely filing this with the Lenovo forum.
