Problem using product recovery CD for X20

#1 Post by Insulator_King » Sat Jan 15, 2005 8:57 pm

I had to replace the system board in my X20 2662 - 12U. [Lightning strike on house, UPS could not catch it all] This was a celeron 500MHz.

Bought a replacement sytem board from ebay.

Board is a 2662-37U, a Pentium® III - 600 MHz.

Long story short, I did a low level format on the hard drive, and then used fdisk to partition.

Still unable to load the OS using the Recovery CD. Lots of trying and restarting, continued selecting the media slice to make the recovery. I think there is some CD driver not loading, but I can't read it fast enough before it goes away.

I am pretty computer savvy, but this has me snookered. Not to mention highly frustrated.!!

I do remember loading it all when I upgraded from the original 10 GB HD to the current 40 GB HD, but I did not take any notes when I did so. Memory is not so hot.

Any suggestions would be welcomed.

NEVERMIND!!! It was a bad memory chip

The only reason I found it was because I tried to install W98 and got an error message Standard Mode: Fault outside of MS-DOS Extender.

Bad memory can sure cause strange problems, and make you want to pull your hair out when something does not work right.
