I want to wipe my laptop clean

#1 Post by kingman99 » Fri Dec 19, 2008 11:39 am

Hi

I have nothing on this laptop that l cannot use so l want to wipe it clean and reinstall my O/S

Windows 2000 pro 600X

I must have preoblems with everything and it's my fault for lurking in the wrong places.

Also when l was installing a Belkin wireless G Plus Mimo USB
adapter to use on my wifes secured network it asked me for an
Encryption code. where do l find this?

Thanks

Alan

If you have a self-booting W2K CD, put it in, then when asked where/how to install it, delete all existing partition(s), make (a) new one(s), format, and continue install.

Could the encryption code be the password?

Did it work after the installation by geek squad?

Can you see the current encryption code in cleartext somewhere?
Perhaps in the Registry?

Have you looked at this?

Hi

When they left it was perfect for my wifes T-61.

I would like to wipe my hard drive clean to get rid of unwanted whatevers.

I have a wind 2000 pro cd and used it before when l had to reploace my hard drives. They only seem to last 2yrs before l replace them>

They are cheap to replace on Ebay

This time l would rather just wipe everything including ????

Thanks

Alan

Guess your text was not too clear...

1) you want to wipe and reinstall W2K on a 600X.

2) you have problems with the wife's T61 Belkin adapter.

(3) OR: you have problems with installing the Belkin on the 600x?)

Right?

Hi

Sorry but it has been sleeting here in New Jersey and l was cleaning off my driveway and fielding office calls.

You are correct 1) and 2)

When my wife bought the Belkin it came with the USB network
adopter

It will work on my neighbor's router when he has it turned on but it's a weak signal.

l would like to deal with #1 first if possible and then l will call Belkin.

My problem is that l am still a semi novice

Am l better off just replacing the hard drive in order to get rid of anything that has invaded my computer.

What l have also noticed is that it takes at least 15 minutes for my computer to run almost right. But still slow and l have to use dial up until l get the wifi working. l have cable but my wife uses it for business with a polycom internet phone and that is the main reason for the wifi router.

Thanks

Thanks

If you follow my instructions for reinstalling W2K, you shouldn't have any problems with the 600X. Unless the hard disk is bollixed, deleting partitions/reformatting should do it.

What exactly is your network setup at home?
Cable --> wifi router (exact make/model please) -->wireless via Belkin MIMO adapter F5D9050 (right?) to T61 (7-character Type/Model please)

Can you use a CAT5 cable to connect router and T61?
Have you tried resetting the router?

You can see your neighbor's router on the T61, but the T61 can not see your own router?
Get the program Netstumbler from http://www.netstumbler.com/downloads/ and install that.
