IBM T42

#1 Post by TimWang » Sat Jan 15, 2005 10:51 pm

I've been thinking about getting a T42 series but after I read about some disquieting reports of problems (dead pixels, "clicking" noise from wrist rest, etc.) I'm not so sure about my decision anymore. My question is what if I get a notebook and this happens to me? Will the warrenty cover it or am I on my own?

If you get it from IBM, you have 30 days to send it back for ANY reason.

Also keep in mind that most people on this forum are extremely picky with their notebooks.

No matter which forum you go to you will find a lot of complaints about their product. This is always the case. No one would put a topic that says "There is nothing wrong with my notebook, what should do about it? Please Help"

People come here to ask for help, advice so that's what you are going to see more. And yes we tend to be very picky. I think a lot of IBM users are and they have high expectations. Also I feel that the average age of members in this forum are older than other notebok forum members.

I don't know I am extremely happy with my notebook :)

About LCDs. IBM does not make them, I think Samsung does, which I think they are one of the best makers out there.

And like Plinkerton said you can get it, use it then for any reason you can return it within 30 days.

Yes, u r right
The problem I had was with mt BT card: just a few days later IBM sent me a new BT card at home and that's it.
I didn't post the results because I had a big job to do.
BTW I am approaching to finish it this week !!! Maybe I will do my tests!

Happy Thinking!

Dear Michael,

the shop is actually very good. The only problem I had is with the original software that is in german. I ordered an English copy but was not able to have an Italian one. Otherwise I have 2 keybs (ger/ita) and everything is going very smoothly.
I am pretty satisfied with my TP.
There are some things that I didn't understood but only because I need my TP for work and I can't play with it, for example:

1. What can the Security Chip do?
2. If I have my NON IBM win XP and want to perform a clean install, what should I install from IBM (drivers? which programs? how can I release my pre-desk?)

In any case it is a veeery good machine: robust, silent, efficient.
Thanks, C.
