Idea for T4x Fan Twitchy Noise

#1 Post by ryan42 » Mon Dec 22, 2008 7:17 pm

I had an idea today about a potential solution to the fan "twitch" that some ThinkPads experience. If there was a capacitor installed inline on one of the fan leads it could act as a filter and limit how quickly the fan could change speeds, swallowing the quick pulses that cause it to twitch. Any ideas?

Someone actually drilled out the center of the fan casing, to prevent the motor shaft from touching the casing and creating the "twitching" noise you mention with the speed changes.

I've installed a long fan in the T42, and that also cures the noise issue, as well as provides a dedicated heat sink for the GPU chip.

yes!

it's my idea, look link bellow

work in 100%
W500 @ T9900, 7K750, 2GB ITM as TMP
now W500, W700, X301, X120e,T43p
before T23, T40, T43p*2, T61p*3 (I hate Nvidia),
Total solution for absolutely ZERO oscillatory noise in t4x
